Clean Gutters & Downspouts

Remove fallen leaves, roof grit, and sticks to prevent roof leaks and foundation water pooling.

Supplies You'll Need

• Sturdy extension ladder with standoff
• Heavy-duty work gloves
• Gutter scoop or trowel
• Garden hose with spray nozzle

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Position ladder securely on firm, level ground.
2. Put on heavy work gloves and scoop out leaves, pine needles, and mud into a bucket.
3. Flush gutter troughs with garden hose starting at the high end, washing remaining dirt toward downspouts.
4. Check downspouts for smooth water exit. Clear any obstructions at elbow joints.
5. Verify downspout extensions discharge water at least 4-6 feet away from home foundation walls.
